It's our SLOW season...

Hi friends!

We thought we would try something new in our 20th year of business, and since no one here at the shop has ever written a blog before, it doesn't get newer than that! This blog will be a mix of our daily activities at the shop, maybe a few recipes, and a whole lot of humor.

Just to forewarn you, I am not a writer, I am not worried about grammar and I refuse to use AI to write this, so please don't fuss at me when I mess up....and I will mess up.

If you've never been here, we are a locally owned small business in Augusta, Georgia. La Bonbonnière was started 20 years ago by our fearless leader, Bebette Smith. We specialize in fine Belgian chocolates that are all handmade in our shop, and we hope to be around another 20 years to satisfy all of your chocolate cravings!

Our adorable little shop in Augusta, Georgia

To start off our blogging journey I thought I would begin by introducing you to our team!

We must begin with the lady who started it all...the one...the only...

Bebette

Now I'm not sure how many of you have had the privilege of meeting Bebette, but if you haven't then you are truly missing out!

This woman is a force to be reckoned with, and quite possibly the strongest woman I have ever met. She started this business 20 years ago and is the heart and mind behind La Bonnonnière.

Because I don't want to get in trouble I won't mention her age, but she is well seasoned in life and brings all her knowledge to the table to make this business thrive.

I'm sure you can figure out that Bebette is from Belgium since she started a Belgian Chocolate shop. So I will enlighten you with things you may not know about her.

  • She loves to play pickleball with her three Grandsons when she is able.

  • Bebette LOVES animals, all kinds! She will love on any animal she see's, and will let any and everyone know how much she would love to have an Opossum.

  • Traveling is her favorite hobby, she has been all over the world, and can't wait to go to more places.

  • Do Not, walk with her unless you like to walk for miles!

  • Bebette likes to give us all nicknames, by accident.

  • Her favorite chocolate is the milk chocolate almond bark.

Next up, we have me.....

Barbara AKA "Gloria"

ree

Be patient with me, I don't know what I am doing.

I have been at the shop since January 2021. I have always loved baking and cooking but never in my life did I see myself working at a chocolate shop. Like many people in the CSRA I had no clue that we had an amazing little chocolate shop here in Augusta, I stumbled upon it while looking for a place to intern as a student at Helms College.

I was lucky enough to start as an intern and loved it so much I never left...I mean can you really blame me...it's chocolate!

If you come in and see me working you will notice, that I tend to be a mess, there has not been a day since I started that I don't have chocolate on me. Before coming to La Bonbonnière I worked in health care as a clerk/telemetry tech at a local hospital that likes to change its name. Health care was not for me, it wasn't my passion, chocolate is though!

Who could be angry around chocolate? Not many people that's for sure!

My favorite chocolate is the Eggnog.

Sarina AKA "Sarah"

ree

Sarina has been with us since August 2021. When you come in and see how neat and clean the shop is, or the cute decorations around...that's Sarina. This lady here loves to clean...and may have a touch of OCD when it comes to cleaning. She can work circles around all of us and never gets tired.

Along with assisting our customers, and keeping the shop organized and neat, she is also an amazing help in the kitchen. Everyday she is wonderful to work with and a great asset to the team, but this past holiday season she stepped up and took on a lot more, between filling chocolates, making recipes, or just keeping me on track, she's been amazing!

Sarina's favorite chocolate is a toss up between the blueberry cheesecake and the milk chocolate almond bark.

Tiffany AKA "Stephanie"

ree

Tiffany began her journey with us in September of 2023. When you come in, Tiffany is usually the first person you see. No matter what she will always greet you with a smile and some good old southern charm. Not only is she great with the customers here, she also works out at the Barnyard Flea Market on the weekends.

Tiffany is super creative, so being in the kitchen helping create some of the amazing chocolates is right up her alley...sampling the chocolates is always a bonus.

Tiffany's favorite chocolate is Sea Salt Caramel.

Kaitlyn AKA "Kathleen"

ree

Kaitlyn joined the team in November 2024. As the youngest and newest member of our team Kaitlyn gets all the "grunt" work....just kidding. She helps us with making recipes, and is great with the customers. Usually, she is the smiling face you see on Saturday's when you come in to get pastries. We don't know how long her journey with us will last because she will begin nursing school soon!

Whatever the future may hold for her, she will always be part of the team here, but she better do good in school, cause we are not getting any younger and she may be looking after us before to long!😊

Kaitlyn's favorite chocolate is Hazelnut Marble.

Well, I hope you have enjoyed reading a little about our La Bonbonnière team. As you join us on this blogging journey, just remember we are amatures at writing, but pros at chocolate making.

See you soon friends!
